Roles ​

Overview ​

Mapworks uses a role-based model for managing access to Applications, Maps, Layers, Datasets, and Connections.

Each user is assigned a single role, which determines what they can access in Mapworks. User Managers and Organisation Administrators can change user roles from the Roles page or from a user's profile.

Permissions are structured in the following hierarchy, where each role inherits the permissions of the roles below it:

Managing Roles ​

The Roles page shows the roles available at your access level and the users assigned to each role. User Managers and Organisation Administrators can change a user's assigned role from this page.

Open the Roles Page ​

  1. In Mapworks UI, click Mgt Console in the bottom left

View Users by Role ​

Selecting a role displays the list of users who have that role.

Only roles equal to or below your own access level are displayed.

Change a User's Role ​

User Managers and Organisation Administrators can change a user's role to the focused role by clicking the orange "Add User" button and searching for the desired user.

In the user lists for App User and Map Designer, each user entry also includes a Switch user role button. This provides a quick way to move a user between these two basic roles without using Add User.

This quick switch option is only available for App User and Map Designer. It does not appear for higher roles.

App User ​

App Users only have access to Mapworks Studio. They can view and share maps but they do not have access to Mapworks UI or the Mgt Console.

📄 Note

An App User cannot be given Manager permissions of a group as they do not have access to the Mgt Console.

Map Designer ​

Map Designers have access to Mapworks Studio, Mapworks UI, and the Mgt Console. They can edit and customise maps, as well as share them with other users or groups.

📄 Note

A Map Designer can be given Manager permissions of a group, which will allow them to add or manage group members.

User Manager ​

User Managers have access to Mapworks Studio, Mapworks UI and the Mgt Console. They can create, modify, and remove users.

Organisation Administrator ​

Organisation Administrators have full access to their organisation. They can manage users and groups, and edit maps.
